The Shape of Things to Come

090924_peakoil

I just got round to reading this.

The San Francisco Peak Oil Preparedness Task Force Report to the Board of Supervisors City and County of San Francisco, March 2009.

And after looking and listening to SPUR's latest awards for innovative solutions to the expected rise in water levels in the bay, seems like we have our work cut out for us.

Serious stuff, I'll have some thoughts on it tomorrow.

Background Reading

090915_CTHDM-800

Of course Drainage Design (Capital D - Capital D) is not really my thing, but it is actually not quite so complicated as it would first appear and, dare I say it, not quite as uninteresting either.

Apologies to the hydraulics folks I've scoffed at before.

Also, remind me at some point to turn the unstructured prose of the standard into a logical procedural flow chart and database.

Play in the City

Tomorrow

Come and see the plans for a new playground in Dolores Park! Designed by KLA Architects, the plan includes new play structures (the current ones are 30 years old) made of green materials, improved signage and a new drainage system. Nancy Gonzalez Madynski of Friends of Dolores Park Playground and Meredith Thomas of the Neihborhood Parks Council will give a preview of the design, and talk about the unique collaboration (with the City's Department of Recreation and Parks) that has shaped the design, fundraising and approvals process.

AutoCAD and Microstation

I'm looking to work slowly into getting back into my tech groove on Acad and Ustation.

So far so good, working on creating and organizing tool palettes and cell libraries for Caltrans Standard Plans.

YAY!

From SFGate

The Bay Bridge reopened at 6:30 a.m. today after crews working around the clock repaired a crack in a steel link on the eastern span, bringing relief to thousands of people who had assumed they would have to find other ways to get across the bay.

Bay Bridge Maybe?

From SFgate

Transit officials are advising drivers who use the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge to begin preparing alternate plans for their morning commute, saying they still don't know if the span will reopen as scheduled at 5 a.m. Tuesday.
