Polk Livable Streets

I do like public participation in charettes and such like, it does lead to people thinking about the practical difficulties involved in trying to please everybody.

Tight spaces, multiple competing interests, limited budgets and all sorts of restrictions. Interesting.

State fire fee ignites anger as bills go out

By DON THOMPSON
ASSOCIATED PRESS

SACRAMENTO -- More than 800,000 Californians who own property in wildfire country will begin receiving bills this week for a new annual fire-protection fee, rekindling outrage among rural residents and leading to a likely lawsuit seeking to overturn the surcharge.

You know your state is hard up for money when it starts charging its residents for public services!

APPEAL OF THE BUILDING PERMIT. The Board of Appeals hearing regarding the Lafayette Park building permits occurred last night. SF Rec and Park prevailed with the Board unanimously voting to deny the appeal and uphold our permit. We would like to thank the Friends of Lafayette Park and all the park supporters who came out to speak in support for the project, and those who sent emails in support. However, we have learned that the appellant now has 10 days to request a re-hearing. During this period our permit remains on suspension. We should have more news to report after Labor Day weekend.

Old Stuff 2

I think I was trying to demonstrate that I could do contribute to any part of the design process; from initial survey to producing designs and models for presentation. Mostly, I didn't model the vehicles and keyboard, although I did do a bit of modification.

It must of worked as I got the job, sometime early 2002. Oooo ten years ago.

Old Stuff

Lower Granton Road - City of Edinburgh - AutoCAD 14 and 3D Studio MAX 1.0 (-ish)

I uploaded the old .avi files and let youtube attempt to frame correct and shaky-cam correct, with quite amusing results. And here is another short sequence from around the same time.

I cannot even remember why I created these, not for any part of the project nor any public presentation, but it was fun back on some very old City of Edinburgh Sun Sparks for the AutoCAD work and my own hand built windows machine for the 3D Studio MAX animation.

Reminder - ReRead some of those 12d manuals

A reminder to myself to reread and go over the tutorials for 12d's most recent products (at least those I have limited trials versions for).

Interesting reading and a product reminiscent of the Infrasoft MOSS\MX type of string modeling and surface creation.

Shoogly Bridge

A builder of the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge failed to disclose that a 19-foot section of concrete in the foundation of the span's signature tower had not hardened before it was tested. By keeping quiet about the problem, the builder prevented further examination or repair.

Actually Back - Giants' Mission Rock plan is in city's ballpark

Sort of

The San Francisco Giants' plan to convert AT&T Park's barren, wind-swept parking lot into the "heartbeat of Mission Bay," with homes, offices, shops and restaurants, is the much-needed link that will connect the burgeoning neighborhood to the rest of the city, team officials said Tuesday.

San Francisco, CA

The Mission Rock District is a dynamic mixed-use district that will be developed by The Cordish Company, in partnership with the San Francisco Giants.  This district will transform an underutilized sixteen acre surface parking lot into a world class destination that features an oceanfront public park, performance venues, retail, office, and residential uses.   The public park, uniquely positioned on the San Francisco Bay, will provide residents and visitors with unrestricted ocean access and open the district to spectacular views of the world famous bay.  The Mission Rock District will also provide an efficient, long-term parking solution for ATT Park.

“I have every faith that we’ll work as a team,” Lee said of the Giants, Board of Supervisors and Planning Department. Lee said he hoped the project would move ahead and “not have the traditional tortuous process.”

Mission Rock Seawall Lot 337 & Pier 48
Project Overview
The Mission Rock development opportunity is located on twenty-seven acres just south of AT&T Park across the China Basin Channel. The land currently functions as a surface parking lot primarily used by ballpark patrons and an aging pier. Our goal is to transform this property into a dynamic new mixed-use community featuring a spectacular waterfront park, dramatic waterfront residences, innovative work environments, original shops and cafes, and a refurbished historic pier. The project is expected to take approximately six years to construct, following the negotiation and approval of a real estate transaction with the Port and the conclusion of the environmental review process. The project is expected to create thousands of new jobs and contribute substantial new revenues to the Port and the City.
