Do Those APWA Members Look Suspicious To You

APWA Invitation

So I keep getting invitations from the APWA, with unsettling happy and beautiful people gracing the postcards, and I'm not coming up with any memories of similar looking people during my interactions with Public Works Employees.

APWA Hazwoper Training

I may have concocted the second image but I have a inkling that it might just be the next APWA flyer arriving in my mailbox.

The Atlantic

San Francisco-LA, the route my fellow journalist wanted to travel, isn't even on this map; the Bay Area MSA only has about 4 million people in it. By contrast, the smallest city on the Chinese map has a population over 5 million, and that's considerably understated, because I used just the population of the city, not the outlying areas that might conceivably drive in to use the HSR.

Inevitably, THE question is asked. 'How long will it take you to get through this?' That’s when the drafter begins to contemplate not only the amount of effort that will be required, but how the answer will reflect on his or her perceived productivity.
Well isn't that just the key issue ... to be continued.

More Certification

100630_civil3d

Well, since Autodesk is offering free exams I might as well take them up on the offer.

The free event was really only useful for my missing AutoCAD 2011 Professional and my Civil 3D 2011 upgrade. So, here are my issues.

The AutoCAD 2011 Professional was far far far too easy. The range of expertise that it examined was too limited and the time allotted to finish the tasks was too generous. If I've not used AutoCAD regularly at work for 4 years (and that was AutoCAD 2004) then I shouldn't be getting 90% in less then half of the allowable time. Worse still, many of those around me were failing and\or running out of time.

And as for the Civil 3D Associates, I do not see how having the 2010 Professional means that I do not have to pass the 2011 Professional to get credit for it, especially as the 2011 Civil Associate has been made so much less difficult. Whereas last years Associate exam was difficult for me, (not using the product regularly) I felt it was fair, now I can pass the 2011 (still not using the product regularly) I can pass with ease with 90% in 1/3 of the allowable time. Does not seem right.

Still.

Carbon Disclosure Project

LONDON — The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) announced the launch of the new CDP Cities program, which will provide a system for cities worldwide to report on their greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related strategies. CDP Cities, in partnership with the C40 and the Clinton Climate initiative (CCI), has asked the largest cities in the world committed to tackling climate change — the 40 member cities and 19 affiliate member cities of the C40 — to voluntarily measure and report to CDP so the cities can proactively manage risks, reduce carbon, and further adopt strategies that safeguard the future of cities. London, Toronto and New York have already agreed to report their carbon emissions data to CDP.Carbon Disclosure Project
